Easy Shelter Downey
Why are rodents attracted to your attic space?
Rodents are highly adaptable; so, they are very good at thriving even under harshest of conditions so attics are like luxury apartments to them. All their basic necessities i.e. food, water and, shelter are more than available there. An attic provides warm shelter, cushioned with insulators where they can dwell, undisturbed and is close to numerous food and water sources making it a very well-furnished and cozy home for these free lodgers.
Food Sources
Rodents like rats, eat pretty much anything and everything available. Food is food without any discrimination. With their sharp sense of smell, they can track down any and all the food sources available nearby; most of the urban dwelling rodents consume human-foods like, leftovers from trashes, foods dropped and left un-cleaned, foods left uncovered and unattended. They rarely have to hunt other animals because of the ready availability of food sources but that is dangerous for us. They spread diseases and damage our properties by chewing the wirings, tearing boxes and so on and they nest in the attics, where they are left undisturbed for long time periods. If you are hearing scratching sounds from your attic, you better consult some attic cleaners and fast. They have big and rapidly growing families so if you were least worried by thinking that ‘it’s just one rat’, think again!
Easy Shelter
In nature, rats live in holes in the ground while squirrels live in tree holes but in the cities where tree cover is fast depleting, these animals take shelter in our homes. And where better than the least disturbed places in the households! The Attics!
The attics are not only the least disturbed place of a household but for these small animals, they are also very easily accessible. They can easily get in and out of the attic unnoticed and unhindered. They can climb in by using the electrical wires or the water pipes or chimneys or even the branches of climbers which have grown along the roof’s edge. Ample routs of easy entry and exit make the attic a very ideal shelter.
To ensure that there are no rodents running around your attic make sure to keep it clean and consult attic professionals so that they can seal any and all entry points of pests and rodents. Make sure to check the insulation systems and ducts too.
Water
Rodents or squirrels or any animals in the microscopic forms (fungus and molds), cannot survive without water. Some may thrive by consuming moisture which is water but in the gaseous state.
This element plays a very important role when it comes to your attic being a nursery for the rodents. If sources of water like, leaky roofs are present in the attic, rodents won’t have any problem regarding their water requirements. They won’t even have to look elsewhere for their water needs. Channeled waterways along the edges of the attic would also be an easily accessible source of water. Make sure that the insulation system is free of any water confirmation and there are no leaks in the attics from where water can percolate in. Presence of water will also create dampness, which will harm the insulation and the floorings.
